Institutional Leaders

For the first seventeen years of the School of Mines (later College of Mines, now UTEP) history, the head of the institution was known as the dean, while the actual role of president of the school belonged to the president of the University of Texas in Austin. This changed in 1931, when the Board of Regents approved the appointment of a president to manage the College of Mines and removed the president of the University of Texas of their role for direct oversight.
